Hybrid Sculpture / Self-Portraiture
(In Progress)
While documenting myself in self-portraits featuring various characters of idealized femininity, I explore caricatures of popular American ideals alongside physical manifestations of my form. In this documentation of my abstraction, I unfold identity in parallel to my relationship with stark expectations of gender within the cultural sub-conscious. Transforming myself into mannequins of modern womanhood, I perform shifting states of self: creating masks of my own face- easily modified, stretched, painted, and reformed- to be worn. Here, the optics of identity are challenged through my explicit abandonment of a cohesive gender ego, in my search for the parameters of fluidity and validity.
